Pimp My Media!
When exactly did the word "pimp" cross over into being an acceptable mainstream term for "spruces up, with particular reference to motor vehicles"? The Independent is now using it! Am I the only one who still thinks it means "one who makes a living hiring out women for sex"?

I still think of it as 2/3rds of the word pimple, an unsightly blot. Which would sum up the cars that they 'tart' up. Again, it's appropriate that they call it pimping.
(P.S. tried emailing Dave a few weeks ago re: Soho comedy but haven't heard anything, any chance of another open mic invite? I was on the night Lewis Schaffer was, it was my 3rd gig. I am Spartacus, actually I'm not, I'm Stuart Morrison email look(at)stuartmorrison(dot)com. P.S> your email address on your website is all screwed up and shows funny code, jsut thought I'd say in case you're wondering why I am writing this damn long comment here)

No you're not the only one but I did go off searching for information on the etymology and found that The Independent's usage is in fact accurate.
Nevertheless, like you, I think of the word as meaning scum who makes money from selling women for sex.
Apologies - bad link. Try this one.
sure that's where it came from but what does it mean now?
