The new pope...

According to this report on the BBC the new pope has announced that he doesn't want any more gay priests. That's pretty offensive, although not much more so than the policy on no women priests, etc, etc. What really amazes me though is that he can get away with claiming this policy is a reaction to US priests being involved in child sex abuse. Now even the BBC hasn't picked up on this and is reporting it as if we all see the obvious connection. Being gay and wanting to sexually abuse kids are, as far as I know, different things, no...? How horribly offensive to link the two!

I entirely agree, adult homosexuals are as disgusted by perverts as adult heterosexuals are.

But, since his organisation/superstition considers homosexuality a wrong, then it's not unreasonable that he prohibit its practice among officials. I'm sure there is a "no car thieves" rule for judges, for example.

I like your blog, please keep writing.

Cheers. Well in any other industry in the UK you could sue if you were refused a job because of your sexual orientation. Religious groups are the sole exception to that law. I think that jobs which are not open to general application should be unpaid. For example the job of pope. I believe the bible says that true Christians should give their money to the poor. So we should sell off the Vatican and give the money to charity and the pope can continue his work at his own expense if he wishes...

UK law doesn't protect people from being excluded from jobs because of criminal background, and of course there is little in place to ensure a fair application process for the naturally stupid and lazy either, because we feel those are reasonable grounds on which to make a selection.

Anyway Jesus WAS gay! John, the apostle "whom Jesus loved". Mmmm.

I came across this story that might amuse you... www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-1811332,00.html ...and in the absence of an e-mail, this looks like reasonable place to put it as a comment.

But coming back to this short discussion, UK law rightly protects people with criminal backgrounds through the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Once some time has elapsed (and assuming they've since behaved themselves), Staghounds' car thief would not have to declare their criminal past to a prospective employer (even if asked) and it will eventually be deleted from the Police's national computer.

Yes there is (rightly) a program which aids the rehabilitation of convicted criminals by clearing their criminal records at somepoints. I believe certain crimes are excluded and certain jobs are entitled to ask for details of any criminal convictions.

The link is great - I may post it up properly. Thanks.

Jesus loved John in a purely HETEROSEXUAL way. Stop trying to pervert the scriptures!

So you believe. He never took a wife and lived his life with 12 men. But then I like gay people so that's not an insult where I live...
