The implication is that there's something abnormal with women wanting hookups and flings, but that it's what guys should be expected to want and women need to defend against. The article seems shocked by the idea that young people of both genders are capable of being individuals who can make independent decisions rather than just always acting like outdated (pre-1960s) stereotypes.
